Traditional garden trugs made in Sussex

Pete Marden

Pete began his working life repairing antique clocks. After 11 years battling with time he followed his interest in conservation by studying Habitat Management and Conservation.

Experience at college of hedgelaying and coppicing introduced Pete to the ancient art of traditional garden trug making. With locally coppiced environmentally friendly sweet chestnut readily available from local High Weald sustainable woodlands, Pete set about learning how to use a froe, a drawknife and a shaving horse.

Pete has now been making handmade traditional Sussex trugs for more than ten years. Living in Hailsham in East Sussex, Peter is a regular exhibitor at agricultural shows and country fairs in the south east of England where he shows these wonderful gifts for gardeners.
