Apples, pears and other fruit, including bruised and part rotten ones, are very popular with thrushes, tits and starlings.
Fat balls and pastry are fun to make and provide important winter food. If you use shop bought fat balls, they should not be left in their bags as small birds can trap their feet.
Potatoes are also popular with birds. Baked (cold and opened up) and roast are all suitable and vanish soon after being offered. Chips are rarely eaten though, so don’t feel bad abut not leaving any for the birds!
All bird food should be unsalted.
