These beautiful caps are handmade from 100% undyed herdwick wool, which is spun, woven and finished in Britain.

The design is inspired by the 1571 Act of Parliament, in which workers were to be fined three farthings if they were seen on Sundays not wearing a cap. The stiffened peak has three brass eyelet vents, one for each farthing.

Each cap comes in a cotton dust bag with drawstring.

Herdwick caps should last a lifetime. To take good care of it a soft brush should be used to remove any loose dirt and if wet, stuff with newspaper to reshape and allow to dry naturally.

Herdwick sheep are a rare heritage breed, native to the English Lake District. Early Norse settlers kept sheep in the fells and their word 'herd-vik' means sheep pasture. Hardy enough to live in the high mountains all year, Herdwick sheep have a dense, quick-drying fleece and a unique memory of their own grazing area or 'heaf'. Herdwicks have reportedly survived for days in snowdrifts during the harshest British winters.
