Pumpkins are one of the easist vegetables to grow for kids of all ages. And this variety is particularly good for making lanterns. A great gift for children who are budding gardeners.
The key steps are:
- Choose a sunny spot, with plenty of space (min 1sq meter per plant)
- Dig in lots of well rotted compost
- From May to June, sow seeds in pairs 5cm below the surface and water every day
- Remove the weaker plant once both get going and continue to water regularly.
- If more than 4 fruits set per plant, remove the weaker ones.
Harvet in plenty of time for Halloween and take care with the knife!
