Pine cones have long been used as weathervanes as they open and close according to the humidity of the air. On wet days they stay closed and on dry days the scales open so that the seeds can disperse.

Any dry fir cones make good firelighters. A short walk through a pine wood most times of year and you will quickly fill a carrier bag.

The firelighting capability of our cones is enhanced by the addition of a natural wax base which is made from plant extracts rather than parafin wax. This means you can relax in the knowledge that your roaring wood fire is entirely carbon neutral.
