The ladybird nest is easy to maintain. The roof and base are made from oak, larch or similar naturally durable timber so no preservative is necessary, which is also best for the insects.
The nest is drilled with upward slanting holes, which lead to a central chamber filled with natural material. If necessary the roof can be removed for cleaning, but this is not essential.
Ladybirds are not only very pretty but they are also very good at keeping down the pest population. One ladybird can eat more than 4000 aphids in its lifetime!
