The eco argument for leather is a tricky one. For years the leather industry has argued that leather is a byproduct of the meat industry and therefore eco-friendly, but the cocktail of chemicals needed to convert the hides is far from eco-friendly. Around 30% of the tannery waste that is normally sent to landfill is leather shavings and trimmings and it is this waste which is used to make the fabric for this apron.
