Deckchairs can be traced as far back as the ancient Egyptians, but it was John Thomas Moore in 1886 who patented the ‘adjustable folding chair’. He manufactured them in Macclesfield and was responsible for many of the chairs supplied to the famous passenger liners like The Titanic. From the 1880s they become common place on ships and at the seaside. Since the 1940s they have made their way onto lawns, cricket pitches, tennis courts, patios and almost anywhere where portable, robust but above all comfortable seating is required. These days there are even celebrity deckchairs with limited edition fabrics.
The kiaora chair canvas is made from 100% cotton. This feels and looks wonderful, but it will fade and rot if left out in the rain too often. If possible please put it away after use. If it does get wet, please dry it somewhere well ventilated.
When the deckchair is flat, it is 109cm long and 50.5cm wide.
