Helping wildlife is not just about national parks and conservation. It is also about providing wildlife habitats in your garden or allotment. This also gives kids the opportunity to observe the habitats and wildlife close up.
The sort of things you can do include:
- Put up plenty of bird and bug boxes
- Resist the temptation to remove rotting wood and plant heads. They provide food.
- Leave a pile of fallen leaves and sticks as a safe refuge for insects to overwinter.
- Don't be too harsh on weeds. Many of them are popular with insects.
