The bags are made in North East Thailand where recycling is common place. The straps are collected from all types of industries in the area and woven into brightly coloured bags of all shapes and sizes. One bag typically requires 50m of tape.
Originally produced for the fish markets as they are so strong and washable, the bags are a wonderful example of ingenuity and enterprise. Over 100,000 bags have been produced so far, which hopefully means 100,000 fewer plastic bags in landfill!
They make great gifts, but don't feel bad if you want one for yourself.
