The steel for the ring is heated to about 1400 degrees in a gas or coke forge. At this temperature the metal becomes malleable enough to be ‘forged’ on the anvil. This involves repeated and accurate hammering of the hot metal until the desired shape is formed.
This technique gives an individual shape and feel to each piece and leaves a surface texture that is completely unique to the process.
The forged steel is then gently heated and pure beeswax is applied, any excess is wiped off and the item left to cool. This leaves a protective layer which is then buffed to produce a beautiful soft sheen.
