Green oak is not completely seasoned and therefore some splits may occur over time which will add to the character of the piece. It will not affect the function of the product and the handles will stay secure.
Green oak has a high moisture content, usually above 30%. It is not possible to kiln dry oak of beams of this thickness, so they have to dry naturally over time. Once oak reaches a moisture level of less than 30% it is widely considered as partially dry and at this stage the oak begins to change shape a little and may crack. This means your door stop is an evolving piece of design with no two ever being exactly the same. We hope you like it.
