There’s nothing wrong with striped deckchairs , believe me, we sell lots of them. And we sit on them too. But once in a while its nice to find a deckchair fabric that’s a bit different, a bit more imaginative.
Deckchair material that is genuinely unusual and unique is hard to come by. Most deck chair fabric is polythene which is mass produced in the far east. This fabric is the other extreme. It is pure linen and has been lovingly painted by Annette van Ryhsen at her studio in France. Each one is painted by hand, numbered and signed by Annette.
The deckchair fabric is made from ‘les nappes de vendage’, which are vintage linen sheets used for the grape harvest. The vintage linen has been backed with a polycotton deck chair canvas to provide additional strength.
The inspiration for the abstract design comes from the flowers and gardens around Annette’s studio in the Vendée on the French Atlantic coast.
