  • Description

After a hard morning in the garden, finger nails always need a good scrub.

Handmade in Sweden by people with impaired vision, these are classic, natural nail brushes.

Firm but not spikey, the white tampico bristles make light of the grubbiest nails.

    Sustainable Swedish oak handle.

    10cm long

White fibre or Tampico is extracted from the leaves of certain species of Agave (Agaves Sisalana, Agave Foreyodes) which grow mainly in Mexico. The fleshy leaf of the Agave plant is cut off and threshed, after which it is beaten with thick sticks so that the fibres are released. On large plantations, threshing machines are used. The fibres are then dried in the sun and sorted according to size, length and colour. The natural colour varies from green to yellowish white although the fibre can also be black or brown as well as grey. The material is used extensively for making yard brooms, panel brushes, deck brushes, nail brushes and bath brushes.

Beautiful brushes handmade by people with visual impairments.

Iris Hantverk employs visually impaired craftsmen to make a wonderful range of brushes at its factory in Sweden. Brushes have been made there using many of the same techniques for over 100 years. Their beautiful range of products includes a bench brush, patio broom, bath brush, nail brush and vegetable brush all made from natural materials.

The brushes feel good to hold and naturally give a steady grip, whether you are scrubbing new potatoes or cleaning your finger nails.

Iris Hantverk also thinks it is important that the brushes are pleasing to the eye. Top designers are employed to ensure this.

If you care for your brushes well, they will age beautifully. They are easy to clean with washing up liquid and warm water. Hang them or stand them on the bristles to keep the wood from splitting.
