  • Description

These pine logs have been carefully sawn to make outdoor torches, using a technique developed during the Thirty Years War by Swedish soldiers. They have a firelighter at the top of the torch to make lighting easy.

These torches are a stunning way to light up a driveway or outdoor party. They can even be used as portable camp fires.

Burn time varies depending on the wind, but typically a torch will burn down completely after around 1 to 1.5 hours.

The torches will scorch the grass so please put them on a fireproof base, and do not move once burning! They are typically 12-18 cm tall and c.14cm diameter.

The Thirty Years War (1618-1648) was a particularly hideous war that involved many countries in continental Europe. Swedes were heavily involved, taking much of Germany, before being beaten back by the Spanish. For long periods they had to survive in forests and to remain mobile. The technique for cutting pine with slits to allow the log to burn as a torch was a very handy way for them to create torches wherever they camped.

Please note, these torches are for outdoor use only and should never be used indoors. As with all open fires, sensible precautions should be taken; keep children away and keep under supervision.
